Comic #3754: super-efficient
Description
Here’s a transcription of the comic text:
Panel 1:
Character 1: Listen, kid. You don't want to be a superhero.
Character 2: How can you say that?
Panel 2: Character 1: I started superheroing in the 1930s. Do you know how much population has expanded since then? The Metropolis metropolitan area has thirty times more people.
Panel 3: Character 1: The more people and technology there are, the less valuable an individual hero. That’s why we all formed leagues in the 60s and 70s.
Panel 4: Character 2: Just to sustain the organization, you’ll need to expand into services or manufacturing. Probably both.
Panel 5:
Character 2: Do you know the most efficient superhero today, in terms of lives saved per dollar?
Character 1: …Is it Batman?
Panel 6: Character 1: It’s Speedsheet, who can easily spread-sheets at speeds far beyond those of mortal men.
Panel 7: Character 1: Honestly, I’m not even sure she’s really super. She might just be an incredibly boring person.
Panel 8:
Character 2: You’re… what… super strong? Super fast?
Character 1: Yeah. And I have laser-eyes.
Character 2: Right.
Panel 9: Character 1: None of that stuff matters. If you could do super pattern recognition or had powers of super-prediction, sure.
Panel 10:
Character 1: So, you won't take me as your protégé?
Character 2: Are you familiar with the concept of the "unpaid intern"?
